Who is Angela Prisca?
Angela Prisca Enwezor is the brains behind Prisca’S Art. A self-taught, proven, and established seamstress and Stylist with a bespoke fashion brand, Prisca'S Art got its commercial footing in 2018. Born Nigerian with a humble catholic background Angela graduated with a BA in International Relations & History. Angela has since made her home with her family in the District of Columbia.
Angela’s love for making clothing goes as far back as her teens as an apprentice in her mom’s hair and fashion boutique in Nigeria. Her passion for mixing art, sourcing genuine fabrics, and creating pieces to fit any woman’s Personality and Lifestyle is her footprint. Her slogan is "Creativity is a never-ending dialogue" which resonates with her design passion. Her favorite fabrics include Adire, Kente, Batik, Kitenge, MudCloth, and Ankara. There is a story to tell about African fabrics and beautiful clothing!!! Prisca’S Art pieces are unique and different. An all-inclusive brand that also caters to the plus-size/Curvy women in the market that tries to ignore them.
What a lucky woman Angela is!?
People have the notion that I'm very lucky living my best life in the States. Maybe, but what's luck got to do with it? Grace? Yes...and hard work. I’m that woman with the ‘Can do’ attitude even when I have minimal tools to achieve. I grew up in Nigeria and was fiercely protected by my mom which brought me close to her for chances to grasp learning opportunities that came my way like a lifeline. I later grew up to realize my power and resilience and believe there's nothing I can't achieve given the opportunity and resources. Back in college all my friends know me and understand why I have evolved this way.
And I’m sharing this to be a force of light to anyone out there who can relate and or doubt their capability.
How a random piece of jewelry connected me to an entrepreneurship journey in the District of Columbia!
In 2015 a neighbor and now close friend of mine Chef Viana Rickette connected me with Angel Gregorio of The Spicesuite to make her the same earring that popped up on my Facebook memory. That was the beginning of my partnership with Angel and later becoming a Spicegirl. Angel offered her space to me to use shortly after we met but I couldn't take her up on it at the time because I was new to motherhood and recently got a 9-5 job. Fast forward to February 2016, I did my first Pop up event at the SpiceSuite and joined the Spicegirlin tribe later in the year. Providing her space through a partnership helped me slowly at my own pace get back to what I love most and eventually quit my job shortly after my second child was born. I believe the Universe place these two amazing women on my part for a reason and I did not let the opportunity slip by.
SpiceGirlin is a collective of brilliant and amazing black women entrepreneurs created by Angel. In 2021 Spicegirlin operated in a commercial space as a co-op for our retail businesses. This space was downtown Connecticut Avenue and L Street northwest. For me, the platform was a good opportunity to express our retail skills. I look forward to sharing this experience with another bunch of progressive women if the opportunity arises.
What does the future hold for Prisca’S Art?
I started a Sidewalk fashion show in 2018, 2019 and couldn't continue when the pandemic hit. I've participated and featured in the Voyage to Utopia 2021/2022 annual fashion show and organized my first successful Solo event with a fashion show and vendors' participation. So what's next? A Contemporary Diaspora Afrocentric Fashion Show with other fashion designers and Vendors' participation. Stay tuned!
